Holiday Magic in the Air: Old Town Cape’s 6th Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony tonight
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The holiday season officially begins tonight in downtown Cape Girardeau, as the community gathers for a festive celebration.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony, now in its sixth year, has become a beloved tradition in the city. The event takes place at the corner of Broadway and Fountain, featuring a variety of activities, including Christmas caroling, entertainment by illuminated aerial performers, and warm beverages and treats from local vendors.
“It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season,” said Savannah Edwards, coordinator with Old Town Cape. “Everyone comes together, and it’s just a wonderful atmosphere.”
With Shop Small Saturday just around the corner, tonight’s event provides the perfect opportunity for attendees to get into the holiday spirit and prepare for a day of shopping and supporting local businesses.
“We’re hoping that people will come downtown, eat, shop, and support our small businesses,” Edwards said.
Attendees also have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and the elves, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event is free and open to the public.
