Hundreds of students compete in regional science fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The 66th annual Southeast Regional Science Fair was held at the Southeast Missouri State Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau Tuesday, March 8.

It showcased more than 300 students from 20 different high schools and junior high schools. These students displayed 201 projects with 139 projects in the junior division and 62 projects in the senior division.

Students were excited to provide their scientific research to the judges and to the public.

Each project was divided into 10 categories which featured Animal sciences, Biomedical sciences, Chemistry, and Material sciences, according to Dr. Brad Deken, chair of Engineering and Technology at Southeast.

The judges included around 80 volunteers. Each project was given three judges to determine their scores. Following the judging, the event ended with a ceremony where many of the participating students won various awards according to their category.
