I-24 W reopens after major crash near Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Interstate 24 westbound heading into Illinois from Paducah has reopened after being closed for several hours following a major crash, according to McCracken County Emergency Management.
The crash, reported earlier in the evening, involved a semi-truck carrying a large load of coiled wire and a pickup truck hauling a camper. Officials said the collision caused a significant blockage on the I-24 Ohio River Bridge, leading to delays lasting more than two hours as crews cleared wreckage and debris.
During the closure, drivers were asked to follow Emergency Route A, which directed westbound traffic off I-24 at Exit 16 (U.S. 68/KY 284 in the Reidland area). The detour followed U.S. 60 west through Paducah to Wickliffe, then connected to I-57 northbound toward Cairo, Illinois.
Motorists were urged to expect heavy congestion and extra travel time, particularly on alternate routes such as the Brookport Bridge.
As of 8:05 p.m., I-24 has fully reopened, and traffic is moving normally.
