Winter Storm Warning area expanded into Tuesday (1/30/23)

Light freezing drizzle was seen moving into our western region this afternoon. With problems and slick roadways we saw this morning, this round will be longer and likely more impactful in terms of seeing nuisance snow and icing.

Cape Girardeau is under a Winter Storm Warning through 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, as is most of our coverage area. Light snow/sleet accumulations of about an inch or less expected while a light glaze of ice is also possible in areas shaded in pink (below).
Heavier mixed precipitation is imminent in these areas as the temperatures are right for a wintry mix through Tuesday morning.

And Weakley County in Tennessee is under an Ice Storm Warning through noon on Tuesday for ice accumulations of a quarter inch or more through this period.

Monday evening’s commute is when the timing of the snow, sleet and ice start to develop (shaded in orange below). This round compared to Sunday night will impact the area for a longer duration of time, bringing impacts to the Tuesday morning commute as well with slick areas.

Pushing farther into Monday evening, the wintry precipitation is widespread over most of our area, coming in the form of sleet and snow particularly.

Ice accumulations through Tuesday morning will be more minimal from Cape Girardeau to the northwest, but western Kentucky and along the Tennessee border there’s a better chance for ice accruing over a quarter of an inch or more.

Take caution tonight as you commute and through tomorrow morning if you plan on traveling. Sidewalks and walkways will be slick once again, similar to this morning. Be sure to check with state resources to help you plan travel decisions over the next few days.
