IL House considering dual credit bill

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Dual credit and early college programming has been a growing educational initiative around the nation and in Illinois.

The Illinois House Higher Education Committee met and heard House Bill 5020 for educational dual credit.

The bill will head to the House floor and, if passed, it will then go to the Illinois Senate over the remaining weeks of the spring session of the Illinois General Assembly.

“We have been in and out of Springfield, and served on multiple advocacy groups,” said Vienna High School Superintendent Joshua Stafford. “So I myself have testified in Springfield about dual credit legislation over the last several years and really one of the fun things that we’ve been able to do recently, is we’ve engaged students voice in there, so we’ve actually had multiple Vienna students who served as policy fellows, with state level organizations, and their voice has been heard in this process as well.”

Stafford says connecting all Illinois students to meaningful opportunities such as dual credit is a win for not only students but the future of our state.
