Illinois celebrates 30 days of public health throughout April

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., (KBSI) — The Illinois Department of Public Health will celebrate 30 Days of Public Health throughout April, building on the success of last year’s inaugural event. Governor JB Pritzker kicked off the month with a video message honoring the state’s “Public Health Heroes.”

This extended celebration coincides with National Public Health Week (April 7-13) and National Minority Health Month. The Illinois Department of Public Health has planned a month-long slate of activities, including an IDPH Job Fair on April 23, to engage Illinois residents in discussions about healthy living and public health.

“National Public Health Week is always one of the weeks in April, but in Illinois, we’ve started a new tradition: we celebrate public health all month long, because seven days just isn’t enough,” Governor Pritzker said.

The celebration will highlight the purpose of public health departments, their connection to the healthcare system, and the fulfilling careers available in the field. IDPH will also collaborate with local health departments, schools, and other public health system partners to host various activities, including a daily audio series, “Public Health History Minute,” and two new episodes of IDPH’s “This is Public Health” podcast.

Additionally, the 2025 Illinois Infectious Disease Conference will take place on April 15-16 in Champaign, featuring keynote speakers Dr. Tania Bubb, Dr. Paul Offit, and Dr. Brad Nieder.

IDPH encourages all Illinoisans to participate in 30 Days of Public Health, National Minority Health Month, and National Public Health Week.
