Illinois issues annual fish consumption advisories

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., (KBSI) — The Illinois Department of Public Health has released its annual update of fish consumption advisories for Illinois waterways.

The advisories are based on testing by the Illinois Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program and detail safe consumption frequencies for fish from over 100 publicly accessible bodies of water.

Five water bodies have been added to the advisory list, while advisories for six others have been updated due to mercury and PFAS testing.

Four water bodies have had their advisories relaxed.

A statewide advisory remains in place, cautioning vulnerable populations to limit consumption of predatory fish.
