Illinois man arrested after high-speed chase in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Clarence H. Smock was taken into custody on March 30, 2025, after a high-speed chase with Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies patrolling Creal Springs observed Smock’s vehicle commit multiple traffic violations around 10:39 p.m. As they attempted to stop him, Smock accelerated and fled, heading eastbound on Route 166.

A second patrol unit spotted the vehicle traveling at high speed, and responding deputies found the vehicle had left the roadway, traversed a ditch, and become disabled at the intersection of Illinois Route 166 and Route 45.

Smock, who had an active warrant for Failure to Appear for Domestic Battery out of Saline County, was also found to have a suspended driver’s license.

He received citations for:

Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding: Class 4 Felony
Speeding 35+: Class A Misdemeanor
Reckless Driving: Class A Misdemeanor
Reckless Conduct: Class A Misdemeanor
Suspended Driver’s License: Class A Misdemeanor
No Valid Driver’s License: Class A Misdemeanor
Improper Use of Evidence of Registration: Class C Misdemeanor
