Illinois sees job growth in April, sets new record

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., (KBSI) — Illinois’ nonfarm payrolls increased by 4,100 jobs in April, reaching a record high of 6,172,500, the Illinois Department of Employment Security announced Thursday.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.8%.

The largest job increases were seen in government, private education and health services, and leisure and hospitality.

Compared to a year ago, total nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 36,100 jobs, with the largest gains in private education and health services, government and leisure and hospitality.

“Illinois’ labor market continues to demonstrate strength and value for both jobseekers and employers,” said Deputy Governor Andy Manar.
