Illinois voters cast ballots in primary election

CAIRO, Ill. (KBSI) – Voters casted their ballot in the Illinois Primary election on Tuesday, March 19. Some residents are hoping for a favorable turnout.

Sharon Rembiesa is an Illinois resident who feels strongly about voting for change.

“If you’re not going to support the system and vote, don’t complain when things aren’t the way you wanted,” she said. “The Democrats will probably pull this county.”

In southern Illinois, Mike Bost and Darren Bailey faced each other in the Republican primary for Illinois 12th Congressional District. Businessman Preston Nelson and attorney Brian Robers running for the Democratic ballot.

Rembiesa says she hopes for a brighter future and has fingers crossed that the turnout goes in her favor.

“For people that are on fixed income, there are better programs for them under that [party],” said Rembiesa.

Voters chose precinct committeepersons, delegates to the National Nominating Convention and county office candidates for each party.

The General Election is set for Tuesday, November 5.
