Inmate faces assault charge after alleged jailhouse attack

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Ryan Burt, 39, an inmate at the Cape Girardeau County Jail, faces a new charge of first-degree assault after allegedly attacking another inmate.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on July 1, resulting in the victim suffering a broken jaw and currently being on a ventilator at a St. Louis hospital.

Burt has been held at the jail since June.
