Jackson business giving free oil changes to veterans in November

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – If you know a veteran in your life that deserves a free oil change, this story is for you. A Jackson business is looking to reward veterans for their service.

Gearheads Auto Repair will give free oil changes to nominated veterans on November 4 in Jackson.

“My dad, my uncles, and my brother-in-law all served and men and women that serve and protect our country and allow us to walk around in the freedom that we have, really touches my heart,” said Amy Ybarra, owner of Gearheads Auto Repair.

Ybarra gives much gratitude to those who have served our country. So not only does she give discounts to veterans year-round, but she will also be showing appreciation through her auto repair business.

“We are doing a Nominate Your Hero campaign as we’re going into Veterans Day in November, and so for the month of October we are encouraging people to go the website and nominate the hero in their life,” said Ybarra. “We will be giving away nine oil changes to veterans that get nominated during that campaign.”

But it does doesn’t stop there, she will continue to show gratitude for all veterans by partnering with a few others to give out food and beverages during the day of nomination.

“That day we’re going to have a whole celebration,” said Ybarra. “We have a coffee truck that’s coming in that’s owned by a veteran. We have a food truck that’s coming in that’s owned by a veteran.”

Tyler Lockwood, who is the general manager, this event means a lot to him and the rest of the crew at Gearheads.

“We are more than auto repair,” said Lockwood. “Yes, we fix your car. Yes, we do things like that, but we are also a part of the community as much as we can be.”

Lockwood says the crew is delighted for community engagement.

“I hope we have a big turnout outside of the people that are just getting oil changes to be able to come here and have that community feel,” he said.

The deadline to nominate your hero is October 26. With such a welcoming essence this repair shop holds, the Gearheads crew will be gearing up to give back.
