Jackson Civic Center looks ahead towards potential expansion project

JACKSON, Mo.(KBSI) – The City of Jackson has approved a $15,000 task order through Dille Pollard LLC to begin the planning process for a possible expansion to its Civic Center.

A Jackson facility that has become a central part of the community over it’s tenure.

“Yeah, it’s been a great addition to the community of Jackson,” said Jason Lipe, director of parks and recreation for the city.

Since opening nearly 10 years ago, the Civic Center has hosted a wide variety of events, including graduation parties, birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers and weddings.

“We’ve had it all,” Lipe said. “We’re just looking for more opportunities to be able to serve our community.”

In addition to serving as an event space, the facility also plays a vital role during severe weather.

“The biggest matter of importance is just the tornado safe room, what it’s been able to provide,” Lipe said.

The next step in the process involves four to six weeks of information gathering.

“It’s just the initial step that will help us in the future,” Lipe said.
