Jackson County declares the winner of the new Jackson County State’s Attorney

MURPHYSBORO Ill. (KBSI) – November 5th the unusual happened here in Jackson County at the courthouse there was a tire between the two running Jackson County State’s Attorney. Several days later we finally have a declared winner.
“It’s nice. I’m very excited. I feel like. I have no words. I’m very excited that the people of Jackson County believe in me and are trusting in me and are wanting me to fulfill the job. So, I’m really excited about that,” said Cascio Hale.
Marsha Cascio Hale is the democrat runner for the Jackson County States Attorney. She says she can’t wait to get to work being the first female State’s Attorney for Jackson County.
“A lot of work. A lot of work. There’s a lot of work to be done, and I’m up to the task,” said Cascio Hale.
For days the Jackson County Circuit Clerk’s Office has been counting ballots, and it has been a close call as Joe Cervantez and Marsha Cascio Hale have been neck and neck until today.
Frank Byrd the Jackson County Circuit Clerk and Reporter tallied 106 votes for democrat Hale and 67 for Republican Cervantez.
“I don’t think they actually thought it would be like us, and none of us did. I mean, like I said, it’s an anomaly that something like this would happen. Both candidates, you know, have their supporters and their supporters are rallying around them. So, I don’t know, it’d be interesting to see how this all plays out. And again, it’s something that’s really never happened. So, we’re kind of excited about the process because everyone’s vote counts,” said Byrd.
With all the votes being counted the Jackson County Courthouse has the next four years planned out as they never had an election this close calling before.
“That’s the way it works. And like I said, I’m giving them sole authority because we want to be as transparent as possible, and we want this to play out like it’s supposed to, and it’s doing it. So far, everything is working out very, very well,” said Cascio Hale.
Cascio Hale won by 39 votes. We also reached out to Joe Cervantez today; he did not want to comment.
