Jackson Fire Rescue team executes dramatic swift water rescue

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) – A dramatic rescue effort by Jackson Fire Rescue saved the life of a Jackson resident.

A 911 call was made after the resident’s vehicle stalled and began floating while attempting to cross a flooded low-water bridge.

Engine 13, which was nearby, responded to the scene and reported a single vehicle upright in the water with the occupant clinging to the side of the truck.

Jackson Fire Rescue units, including Squad 27 and Engine 13, worked together to secure the scene and establish communication with the occupant.

Captain Justin Farrar, a swift water technician, entered the water and safely reached the patient, who was provided with a life vest and then swam to shore.

The rescue effort was successful, and the patient was safely removed from the water.

Jackson Fire Rescue has been responding to multiple incidents in Jackson city limits and Cape Girardeau County due to flooding.

Authorities urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and areas, citing the risk as unnecessary.
