CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Jackson High School student is carrying on her late grandmother’s tradition of making handmade hats for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Brynn Bandermann taught herself to crochet by watching online tutorials and using the crochet supplies of her late grandmother, Agatha “Gigi” Hawn. As part of a school passion project, Bandermann created handmade hats for newborns in the Saint Francis NICU and delivered them on Easter.

The family recently discovered two boxes of hats Hawn had crocheted before her death. Those hats were donated to the NICU last week in her memory.

Saint Francis Foundation said the donations will provide comfort and warmth to newborns and their families while continuing Hawn’s legacy of generosity.

The foundation thanked Bandermann for honoring her grandmother’s memory and supporting families with babies in the NICU.
