CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Jackson man died following a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV Wednesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau.
Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded at about 4:32 p.m. to the 300 block of North Kingshighway for a reported injury crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2003 Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer was traveling northbound on Kingshighway when a 2014 Buick Encore pulled out of a private drive and attempted to travel east, crossing Kingshighway. Police say the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV.
The motorcyclist was ejected during the crash and transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities identified the rider as Robin Lankford, 46, of Jackson. Police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but it apparently came off during the collision.
The driver of the SUV, Michael Moser, 59, of Senath, was not injured.
The department’s reconstruction team is continuing to investigate the crash.
