Jackson man in custody after punching state trooper in the throat

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a Missouri State Trooper.
According to the probable cause report on Friday December 27, 2024 at 10:00 pm a Missouri Highway Patrolman was dispatched to help a stranded motorist on U.S. 61 at Shawnee Boulevard.
When the trooper arrived 0n scene he found a 2013 Hyundai Sonata in the turning lane of U.S. 61. The driver was identified as 37-year-old Joel Hahs of Jackson, Missouri.
The trooper made contact with Hahs at his residence on Shawnee Boulevard where he noticed Hahs was intoxicated. He asked Hahs to sit in his patrol vehicle.
After an interview the trooper asked Hahs to get out of the vehicle where Hahs refused.
The trooper noticed Hahs becoming aggressive, so he attempted to detain him.
The probable cause states the trooper went to grab Hahs right arm in order to detain him and Hahs then punched the trooper in the throat.
The two began to fight and Hahs reached for the troopers’ handgun attempting to disarm him.
The trooper was eventually able to get Hahs handcuffed and taken into custody.
The trooper was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries.
Hahs faces multiple charges including multiple felonies and a misdemeanor.
