Jackson reduces main street speed limit to 20 mph for enhanced safety
JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — The speed limit on Main Street in uptown Jackson has been reduced to 20 mph to enhance safety for pedestrians, businesses and residents.
The reduced speed limit, which was approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, applies to Main Street from Union Avenue to Georgia Street.
Jackson Public Works Director Janet Sanders said the change is just one part of a bigger plan to make the area safer for people to cross.
“We are getting ready to start a pedestrian safety program called Safe Across,” she said. “It’s a program that was developed by the city of Springfield. We’ll be really kicking off the program April 26th in conjunction with Park Day.”
New speed limit signs are in place, and the Jackson Police Department will be enforcing the new limit.
Motorists are advised to adjust their speed accordingly to help keep the community safe.
