Jackson school district proposes tax levee increase

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) –Jackson School District is proposing a tax levee increase for staff working for the district.  

Jackson school officials invited the public for a coffee and conversations meeting with superintendent Scott Smith on Thursday, March 7th

The districts latest property tax proposal called Proposition T.  

It proposes a 0.47 cent tax levy increase to provide funding to teachers and staff and support student success. Smith says the amount adds up to about 7$ per month for every $100,000 in appraised property. Proposition t will be voted on through the election on Tuesday April 2. Voting takes place during spring break so those who will be traveling can place an absentee ballot starting Tuesday March 19th.

According to the district, the funds would go to not only attract and retain quality teachers and staff — but also ensure certain programs and class sizes are protected. 

Superintendent smith says the amount adds up to about 7$ per month for every $100,000 in appraised property.  

According to the district they also need to increase revenue in order to reach these 7 goals laid out in their strategic plan – which also includes an emphasis on leadership, culture and climate.  

 Proposition T will be on the ballot when voters go to the polls April 2nd.  

Voting takes place during spring break so those who will be traveling can place an absentee ballot starting Tuesday March 19th.
