Jackson warns residents of fraudulent “Variance Request Update” emails

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Jackson is warning residents about fraudulent emails that appear to come from city staff regarding a “Variance Request Update.”

City officials said the messages are not from the City of Jackson and include payment instructions with an invoice attachment. The emails often begin, “I hope this message finds you well. We are writing in regard to your application for a variance request…”

Residents who receive a similar email should:

Do not open attachments.

Do not provide personal or financial information.

Do not reply or confirm any details with the sender.

Delete the email, block the sender, and report it to City Hall’s IT Department at Jackson, MO | Official Website.

The city urged the public to share the advisory to help prevent scams.
