Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducts St. Patrick’s Day traffic safety campaign

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office participated in a traffic safety enforcement campaign over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, resulting in 15 traffic stops.
The stops yielded two traffic citations, issued for speeding and driving with a suspended license, and 13 warnings for various infractions, including speeding, improper lighting and improper lane usage.
Standardized Field Sobriety tests were conducted, but no impairment was detected.
The sheriff’s office joined state and local law enforcement agencies in the enforcement campaign, which was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason — to save lives,” said Chief Deputy Prudent.
