Johnston City man faces charges after Carbondale police he tried to steal copper from a vehicle

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Johnston City man faces charges after police say he tried to remove copper from a vehicle in Carbondale.

Damon H. Jones, 46, faces charges of burglary to motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and resisting a peace officer.

A Carbondale Police officer was on foot patrol in the 1200 block of East Main Street when the officer saw a man removing copper from a vehicle belonging to a contractor working in the area on Tuesday, June 20 at 5:01 a.m.

Police say Jones tried to run, but was quickly arrested.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
