Juneteenth celebration planned at Ivers Square in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Community members are invited to celebrate Juneteenth in downtown Cape Girardeau this weekend.
Visit Cape Girardeau will host a Juneteenth celebration at Ivers Square on June 20. The event recognizes the end of slavery in the United States and honors Black history, culture and community through a day of reflection, education and celebration.
The event is scheduled to continue through 4 p.m.
Following the celebration, attendees can continue the festivities downtown. The Bar will open at 3 p.m. and will feature live music by Freedom Shearon beginning at 8 p.m. Food from Port Cape Girardeau and Encore Pizza will be available for delivery to patrons at The Bar.
Organizers encourage residents and visitors to attend the community celebration and support local businesses throughout the day.
