Juvenile goes home with family after stabbing two people

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A juvenile is back at home after they were released to a family member after stabbing two people.

According to the Carbondale Police Department on October 17, 2024, at 3:25 p.m., Carbondale police officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of East Birch Street.

Officers found two victims who had been stabbed by a juvenile female with whom they had a dispute.  

All of the people involved knew each other before the incident.

Both individuals were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The juvenile female who stabbed the two individuals was taken into custody for Aggravated Battery.

The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office was consulted and approved the juvenile for detention in a youth detention facility.

Multiple juvenile detention centers were contacted but none were willing or able to accept the juvenile.

The juvenile was released to a family member.
