Juvenile in custody after accused of threatening Carbondale store manager with gun

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A juvenile is in custody after Carbondale police received a complaint of a person in possession of a handgun threatening the manager of a store.
Carbondale police received a complaint on July 19 at 10:48 p.m. about a male who was in possession of a handgun and threatened the manager of a store in the 500 block of East Main Street.
That person was not immediately located.
On July 20 at about 12:50 a.m., the police department received another call about a person in possession of a firearm in a similar vehicle described in the prior incident.
Officers found the vehicle traveling near the intersection of University Avenue and Main Street and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue.
One of the people in the vehicle, a juvenile male, was found to have a Jackson County warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon.
Officers took him into custody for the warrant.
They found a loaded handgun under the seat where the juvenile was seated.
Police say that juvenile was confirmed to be the same person who threatened the store manager earlier in the night.
The juvenile was detained in a juvenile detention facility pending a hearing.
His name is not being released due to legal prohibitions involving juveniles.
The other people in the vehicle were released.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
