K-9 alert leads to arrests in Cape Girardeau narcotics case

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Two people were arrested and charged following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop at about 8:20 p.m. Dec. 9 near Missouri Highway 74 and Minnesota Street for defective equipment. During the stop, K-9 Gaston was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 28 grams of suspected methamphetamine, police said.
The driver, Mysti Brimer, 40, of Poplar Bluff, and the passenger, Bobby Shoulders, 38, of Sikeston, were taken into custody.
Brimer was charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office with delivery of a controlled substance, a Class C felony, and was issued a $20,000 cash-only bond. Shoulders was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, also a Class C felony, and was issued a $25,000 cash-only bond.
Police said the arrest highlights the continued partnership with the department’s K-9 unit in removing illegal narcotics from the community.
All charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
