K9 locates meth and fentanyl during traffic stop

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man is facing charges for fentanyl and meth possession.

According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on December 11, 2024 at approximately 10:42 pm a Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Illinois State Highway 14 near the intersection of Rend City Road.
The drive was identified as Jason R. Hobbie age 44 of Benton.
During the course of the stop, K9 Vader was deployed to conduct a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert.
A probable cause search of both Hobbie and his vehicle was soon conducted.
The search produced approximately 5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 92 suspected fentanyl capsules, multiple small clear plastic bags, and $1,976 in cash. Hobbie was arrest and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
During the booking process, additional controlled substances (suspected fentanyl capsules) and drug paraphernalia were found concealed on Hobbies body.
Hobbie faces charges of
Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 Felony),
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)
Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony)
Unlawful Possession of Contraband within a Penal Institution (Class 1 Felony)
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor)
