Karen M. Adkinson sickle cell walk-a-thon slated for Saturday in Cairo

CAIRO, Ill. – The 22nd annual Karen M. Adkinson Sickle Cell Anemia Walk-A-Thon is slated for Saturday, Sept. 24 in Cairo.

The walk is sponsored by the Epsilon Lambda Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and will commence at 9 a.m. at the Cairo Senior High School, and will go to the end of Cairo and back.

“It is a very painful and serious disease and even though you don’t have sickle cell, many people have sickle cell traits and that is almost as – it is not deadly but is very serious,” said Debra Houston, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority member.
