KCGQ rebrands as 99X, expands rock music lineup

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — KCGQ has rebranded as 99X after more than two decades under the “Real Rock” name, expanding its music lineup to include more contemporary and emerging rock artists.

The transition began Oct. 2, according to River Radio, which operates the station.

The station will continue playing established artists such as Foo Fighters, Shinedown, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Linkin Park and Weezer while broadening its mix with music from artists including Greta Van Fleet, Beartooth and Autumn Kings.

“This isn’t about walking away from KCGQ’s rock heritage. It’s about building on it,” said Jack Swart, general manager of River Radio in Cape Girardeau.

Swart said the change allows the station to retain music familiar to longtime listeners while adding more current artists and songs.

KCGQ remains part of the River Radio group serving Cape Girardeau and southeast Missouri.
