Kelly School District students get inside look at local government
BENTON, Mo., (KBSI) – Fifty-one 2nd-grade students from Kelly School District visited city hall Tuesday, where they received a firsthand look at municipal operations.
Mayor Simmons briefed the students on the various responsibilities involved in running a town, including police and fire departments, water and sewer services, and the grant process.
Police Chief Mack discussed the department’s annual response to fires and medical emergencies, and gave the students a tour of the fire trucks and equipment.
Firefighter Crane also demonstrated the gear worn by firefighters during emergency responses.
The visit was part of the district’s effort to educate students about local government and emergency services.
