Kelso Solar Project provides funding to Sikeston DPS for police bikes

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Sikeston Department of Public Safety has received funding to purchase police bikes.
The funding was generously donated by Arevon Energy, Kelso Solar Project, and used to purchase two Recon Interceptor Power Bikes.
The bikes are specifically made for police and first responders.
Officers received special training and say the bikes will allow for them to reach places they can’t in a patrol car or better assist in off road or tough terrain responses.
Some officers will be on the bikes at the Sikeston Rodeo Parade, and Sikeston Rodeo and other events held in Sikeston.
Sikeston residents will soon see officers patrolling on bikes throughout Sikeston and at upcoming events.
Sergent Tyler Rowe shares how these bikes help the department.
“On a bike they can respond faster. Maybe in a vicinity or an area” says Rowe. “But really, we’re going to use these, during the cotton carnival parade, the rodeo parade, it allows us to get up and down the parade route fast enough that if there is a problem that arises, we can maneuver in a crowd a lot easier and in and out of the rodeo grounds during rodeo.”
The bikes have lights and citizen’s are expected to stop for officers the same way they do a police vehicle but on foot.
Phayzun Fobbs will be one of the officers patrolling on the bikes as he attended the training.
“Im very excited to get these on the roadway just to see how they standup and taking them off road and seeing how they hold up” says Fobbs.
