Kennett fire officials stress importance of closed doors, smoke alarms after kitchen fire

KENNETT, Mo., (KBSI) — The Kennett Fire Department is reminding residents that closed doors can provide critical protection during a fire, following a recent kitchen fire incident.

Officials shared a photo showing an outward-facing door that remained intact after the fire, while the inward-facing door was completely destroyed.

Fire officials said the level of protection a door provides depends on factors such as quality, age and fire resistance, but emphasized that even a basic door can buy valuable time during a fire if it is closed.

The department also urged residents to ensure their homes are equipped with interconnected smoke alarms.

Fire officials recommend adding the practice of closing doors to nightly routines, noting that it could save lives.
