Kennett man accused of burglaries, attempted robberies in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A Kennett man faces several felony charges after Cape Girardeau police say he pointed a weapon at multiple people and demanded money.

Shawntario Evans, 19, of Kennett faces charges of Class B felony burglary 1st, three counts of felony armed criminal action, two counts of Class B felony of attempted robbery 1st and Class E felony of resisting arrest.

Officers Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to the 400 block of Sheridan Drive on Sunday, October 29 in reference to a weapons violation.

Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with a victim that said a male later identified as Evans tried to open the back door of the home.

As the victim approached the back door, Evans began running away from the home, according to police.

Officers made contact with another victim in the 400 block of Sheridan who said Evans entered the front door of the home, pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded money from the victim. The victim told Evans there was no money and Evans ran from the home, according to police.

Officers then made contact with a third victim in the 2100 block of William who said Evans pointed a firearm at him/her and demanded money. After the victim refused to give anything to Evans, Cape Girardeau police say he ran from the area.

Officers found Evans in the 2100 block of William running through a parking lot. He matched the description given by the victims.

An officer approached Evans and turned on his emergency lights and police say Evans ran from the officer. After a short foot chase, Evans was arrested.

Officers found a loaded firearm in Evans’s possession.

Evans was taken to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
