Kennett man receives 102-year sentence for role in brutal 2024 attack

KENNETT, Mo., (KBSI) — A Kennett man has been sentenced to more than 100 years in prison for his role in a January 2024 incident in which a man was beaten, cut, burned and robbed.

Kenneth Canday, 25, was found guilty of multiple charges, including kidnapping, robbery and armed criminal action, following a jury trial in November in Pemiscot County.

The incident began when Canday and his co-defendants lured the victim to an apartment in Senath, where he was assaulted and robbed.

The next day, police attempted to arrest Canday, who barricaded himself inside a residence with two hostages.

After an eight-hour standoff, a SWAT team entered the residence, rescued the hostages and took Canday into custody.

Pemiscot County Circuit Judge Joshua Underwood sentenced Canday to 102 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, with some counts to be served consecutively.
