Kennett man sentenced to 50 years for statutory rape, invasion of privacy

DUNKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A Kennett man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Wednesday for statutory rape and invasion of privacy.
Matthew Prewett, 43, was sentenced Wednesday, according to Dunklin County Prosecutor Nicholas Jain.
He pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape in the first degree and eight counts of invasion of privacy.
After a sentencing argument, the Honorable Judge Joshua Underwood sentenced Prewett to 34 years on the statutory rape of a child under fourteen years old and two years each on the invasion of privacy charges resulting in a 50-year sentence.
He had already been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the United States District Court in Cape Girardeau.
Judge Underwood referred to the Prewett as a child predator based on his conduct.
Jain thanked the Kennett Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their work investigating this case, especially Kennett Police officer Aaron Mays who was the lead investigator.
