Kentucky declares severe weather week after devastating floods

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — In response to the devastating flooding that hit Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear has proclaimed the upcoming week as Severe Weather Week.

This declaration comes after the state has experienced 13 federally declared disasters during Beshear’s eight years in office.

Starting Saturday, the National Weather Service will provide critical safety information on severe weather events, including lightning, flooding, and tornadoes.

Gov. Beshear emphasized the importance of preparedness, stating that Kentuckians should take proactive measures to protect themselves, their families, and communities from potential severe weather threats.

Severe Weather Week will run from March 1-7, and Gov. Beshear encourages participation in the annual statewide tornado drill on March 5 at 10 a.m.
