Kentucky joins nationwide crackdown on impaired driving over Labor Day weekend

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — As Labor Day approaches, Kentucky is joining a nationwide campaign to curb impaired driving.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs from Aug. 13 to Sept. 1, aims to reduce crashes and save lives. Kentucky law enforcement agencies will be increasing patrols and checkpoints to catch impaired drivers.

Gov. Andy Beshear emphasized the importance of celebrating responsibly. “If you are under the influence and choose to get behind the wheel, you put everyone on the road in danger, including yourself.”

According to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, there were 4,260 crashes involving an impaired driver in Kentucky last year, resulting in 2,062 injuries and 185 deaths.

To stay safe, officials recommend planning a sober ride home, using ride-booking companies or taxis, and wearing seat belts. If you see an impaired driver, safely pull over and contact law enforcement.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and law enforcement agencies across the country are participating in the campaign.
