Kentucky man charged in connection with June construction site explosion

CALVERT CITY, Ky., (KBSI) — A 41-year-old Calvert City man has been charged with criminal mischief in connection with an explosion at a construction site in McCracken County in June.

Jessie Reed was served with a criminal summons on Aug. 4, 2025, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation showed that Reed had made a sparkler bomb in his vehicle while at the jobsite and then asked a coworker to cut a portion of the sparklers off, causing the explosion.

Two people were injured in the explosion, which occurred on June 16, 2025, at a construction site at Lone Oak First Baptist Church.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation determined that the explosion was not workplace-related and was caused by the improper use of fireworks.
