Kentucky man indicted for murder of SIU Student

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI)-  Keavonte T. Nesby age 22 of Louisville, Kentucky, faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, for the death of Southern Illinois University Carbondale freshman Keeshanna Jackson.

The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred on August 22, 2021, outside a house party at 501 West Cherry Street in Carbondale, Illinois.

Carbondale Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired, and four victims suffered gunshot wounds.

Jackson was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Nesby has also been charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Nesby appeared before a Jackson County Circuit Judge for a first appearance hearing on September 4, 2024.
