Kentucky offers mass driver’s permit testing events for 15-year-olds

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — To meet increased demand following a new law allowing 15-year-olds to obtain driver’s permits, the state is hosting testing events across Kentucky on May 17.

More than 1,500 written permit test appointments will be available at 20 testing locations. Appointments can be scheduled online starting Friday at 1 p.m. EDT.

Gov. Andy Beshear said the state has been working to develop solutions to meet the increased demand since House Bill 15 took effect.

To ensure a smooth signup process, applicants are encouraged to have required documents ready, including proof of identity, Social Security number and address.

Required documents for the written permit test include:

Proof of identity, such as a birth certificate
Proof of Social Security
School Compliance Verification Form

Applicants can find more information and study materials, including the Kentucky Driver Manual.
