Kentucky residents warned of text message scam

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is warning residents about a text message scam impersonating the state agency.

The scam messages claim the recipient has unpaid traffic tickets and threatens to suspend their driving privileges if payment isn’t made immediately.

The cabinet advises residents to be cautious of messages using the terms “KDOT” or “DMV,” as these are not used in official communications. Residents should also verify the authenticity of messages before taking action.

Anyone receiving a suspicious text should not click on any links and should report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center or the Federal Trade Commission.
