Kentucky State Police investigate fatal officer-involved shooting

CADIZ, Ky., (KBSI) — The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday at approximately 11:50 a.m. CT.

The preliminary investigation indicates that KSP troopers attempted to stop a vehicle near the 42-mile marker of I-24 eastbound, but the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that continued into Trigg County.

The suspect vehicle crashed near the 65-mile marker, and the suspect exited and fled on foot, shooting at law enforcement and striking one deputy.

Three Trigg County Sheriff’s Office deputies returned fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured deputy was transported to a medical facility and is in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing, and KSP is working to gather facts and interview witnesses. The agency is committed to transparency while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.
