Kentucky State Police offer winter weather safety tips amid approaching storm

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — As winter weather approaches, the Kentucky State Police are reminding citizens to prioritize highway safety.

Motorists are urged to avoid travel during inclement weather, but if necessary, to exercise caution. The KSP recommends assembling a winter weather kit with essentials like a cellphone charger, blankets and snacks.

To stay informed about road and weather conditions, citizens are encouraged to visit the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s online portal at GoKY or follow KSP’s social media channels. Dialing 911 for non-emergency situations can tie up emergency lines and hinder responses to critical situations.

In preparation for the winter weather, KSP Post 1 troopers will begin removing abandoned vehicles from road shoulders to ensure safe passage for snow plows and to prevent traffic hazards.
