MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky State Police Post 1 has a new leader with the appointment of Capt. Joey Adams, a 26-year veteran of the agency.
Adams, a native of Carlisle County, began his career as a trooper in July 1999 after graduating from KSP Cadet Class 76. He was first assigned to Post 8 in Morehead before transferring to Post 1 in 2001, where he spent 17 years — including 14 as a sergeant. During that time, he served as a trooper, detective, squad sergeant and administrative sergeant.
In 2018, Adams transferred to the Division of Forensic Services, where he served as commander overseeing six forensic laboratories and the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Investigative Team. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2019 and captain in 2021. After seven years away, he now returns to Post 1 as its commander.
Adams holds an associate degree from Paducah Community College and a bachelor’s degree in police administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He previously served five years with the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office and the Paducah Police Department, graduating from the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy in 1996.
His career includes numerous honors, among them two KSP Commissioner’s Commendation Awards, Four Rivers Behavioral Health Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year in 2010 and 2013, NAMI Kentucky CIT Officer of the Year in 2014, and the Four Rivers Behavioral Health Lovey Raburn Award in 2016. He is also a certified collision reconstructionist and Kentucky Law Enforcement Council instructor.
KSP also recognized outgoing Post 1 Commander Maj. David Archer, who served in the role for five years. Archer was recently promoted to West Troop Major, overseeing operations across eight post districts in western Kentucky.
