Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosts public meeting to discuss U.S. 60 Connectivity Study

CAIRO, Ill. (KBSI) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosted a public meeting at Cairo High School on Thursday to field public comments on the cabinet’s U.S. 60 Connectivity Study.
The cabinet is conducting a study to determine the best course of action on a new U.S. 60 corridor.
“Hey, we live in the greatest country in the world. If we can put men on the moon, surely we can solve a problem about putting a bridge in,” lifelong Cairo resident Derek Eurales said.
Through this study, the cabinet will assess the feasibility of this new corridor and Ohio River Bridge crossing between U.S. 60 in Barlow, Kentucky, and Interstate 57 near Future City, Illinois.
KYTC District 1 Public Information Officer Keith Todd outlined what public meetings like the one on Thursday aim to accomplish.
“We want the public to come in and look at some of the things we’ve identified from an engineering standpoint, and then give us feedback on what they like and what they don’t like.”
Which will help the cabinet decide which route to move forward with.
“Who’s going to benefit from it? There may be some problems with it, and that’s what we need this feedback from the public for,” Todd said. “We need the public to tell us, ‘hey, here’s some things you need to look at or consider.’”
And as Eurales reiterates…
“This is the United States. How can we say who we are, the greatest country, if we can’t reason together?”
The cabinet will decide on the best course of action sometime this Spring.
