Large house fire in Johnston City

Johnston City, Ill. (KBSI) – Several individuals were rescued from a bedroom window after a home caught fire in Johnston City.

On November 28, 2023, officers with the Johnston City Police Department responded to a 911 stating that a home was on fire on 308 west Fifth Street.

Officers arrived on scene at 6:51 a.m. and the entire southwest side of the house was engulfed in flames.

According to the Johnston City Police Department flames rose about 15-20 feet above the roof line.

The individuals in the home were known to the department so they knew the layout of the home.

Officers immediately ran to the rear of the home where they heard screaming from what they knew was a bedroom window.

Officers then broke the window and used their voices and flashlights to get the male and female individuals out.

Once the individuals got to the window they were pulled out to safety.

Approximately 60 seconds later flames were showing outside the busted window.

Several fire departments in the area responded to help get the fire out.
