Lawyer in the Library program provides brief consultations in Southern Illinois

CAIRO, Ill. (KBSI) – Lawyer in the Library is a program that is exactly how it sounds-a Lawyer in the Library. The program based in Southern Illinois and held at the Cairo Public Library provides sessions with lawyers needing pro bono work to individuals needing legal advice.

The program gives free coaching and legal advice for civil legal issues and brief consultations.

The sessions are held in 20-minute increments and run from monthly sessions to every three months.

Toya Wilson is the Director of the Cairo Public Library. She shares who this will benefit.

Well, I think it’s, really great for people if you have like, a lot of times we might have legal questions” says Wilson. “We don’t know what direction to go in and sometimes it helps to talk with somebody to make sure that you’re doing the right thing. So, you won’t have any penalties or any kind of backlash that might happen if you, didn’t talk to someone. And a lot of times people don’t seek out a lawyer because they can’t afford their expenses or they don’t want to, have that expense. So, this allows someone to talk to someone and then decide and get the help they might need in before they have to spend that, extra money.

Preregistration is required, and you can register and find out specific dates and times by calling the Cairo Public Library.
