“Lego Madness”: The Ultimate Brick Show comes to Marion, Ill., for first time
MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – From guitars, to trains, to mosaics, to everything in between, the Ultimate Brick Show has it all.
Organizer Tim Woods described the power that Lego has.
“It connects. No pun intended, but it connects,” he said. “You think about this little brick, what you see here today, it’s created from a little piece of plastic.”
The guitars belong to Brad Alsop, and he said he got the idea of Lego guitars while recovering from back surgery.
“I was just sitting there watching movies, and I love playing guitar and I love Legos, and the idea was just like, ‘maybe I should try to combine the two. I wonder if that would even work,’” he said.
And there he was, playing his Lego guitar, but he said the guitar isn’t even the main attraction.
“Everybody’s favorite is…the concert venue. I don’t know why, but it always is,” he said.
And then, there’s Patrick Durham, aka Grand Admiral Pappy.
Durham appeared on Season 3 of the TV show Lego Masters, and while he said it was pretty much a dream come true to be on the show, he said the real bonus is what he is doing now, travelling around and doing Lego shows like this one on Saturday.
“Even though it meant the world to me to be on Lego Masters, that was just a door that opened to a whole brand-new experience, and it’s fantastic,” he said.
And amongst all the Lego madness, Durham leaves us with this: “I want you to remember one thing: I am Grandpappy Patrick from Season 3 of Lego Masters, and I will always be your Grandpappy!”
