CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- A new home for homeless pregnant women is soon to open in Cape Girardeau.

“We can’t wait to see the impact it’s going to have on the community.” Jeremy Rowland is the Chief Regional Officer for the Eastern Region for Catholic Charities.
He says a recent study ranked Missouri 44th in infant and maternal fatality rate, and a third of the deaths happened in St. Louis and the bootheel.

Rowland says, “So, there is a definite need here, and so we settled on Cape Girardeau because we had the land donated and we had fantastic community support.”

Only fifteen occupants can reside in the shelter at a time.

Rowland says due to low occupancy, patients have to be on board with the programs rules and 100 percent sober to qualify.”It’s something really awesome that Catholic Charities is doing for everybody, if utilized correctly I think this will be something wonderful for everybody.”

Says, Dylan Kemp who is the Superintendent with RHC, he says the project is expected to be completed by this coming spring, “It’s been a great project, it’s been fun it’s been something different, something new for the area, I think it’s going to be great.”
